Starting a notebook

Why I'm writing things down, and what I expect this to become.

meta

Every few years I convince myself I should write more. This time I’m actually doing it.

The honest reason: I’ve been in software for two decades and I’ve learned a lot of things twice. Ideas I understood once, let slip, and had to relearn from scratch. Writing is the answer to that. It forces clarity, creates a record, and makes the thinking stickier.

This isn’t a blog in the traditional sense. I’m not chasing traffic or optimizing for discovery. It’s a notebook — my notebook — that happens to be public. If something I write is useful to someone else, good. But that’s not the primary goal.

What I expect to write about: software engineering, cloud architecture, distributed systems, leadership, interviewing, and whatever else is on my mind. Occasionally faith, family, and the question of how to do good work over a long career.

No fixed schedule. No editorial calendar. Just things worth writing down.
